With December’s wonderfully mild weather now just a memory, the first few weeks of the new year have proved predictably chilly. Still, we’ve avoided the snow (so far), the sunshine has put in the occasional guest star appearance and, as the days lengthen, there’s enough evening light to walk the dogs after work. In the main though, it’s a case of persuading the chainsaw to start, keeping the woodburners fed and hoping for an early spring.

As in the last two months of 2016, there are fewer houses coming to the market than in recent years - and though this has yet to translate into a firming of asking prices, it is likely to have an effect should the trend continue.
